The Ruffle Topper:

Supplies you’ll need for the ruffle topper:

  • A numerical cutter
  • Fondant in white and black
  • Mold for a little bow
  • Dust of gold petals
  • Cake pop or popsicle sticks

Making the Ruffle Topper:

(Don’t forget to watch the video below for all of the instructions.) You don’t want to cut your number just yet. Just spread out a sheet of fondant that is not too thin but large enough to accommodate your number.

Roll out thin black and white fondant strips, fold them in a loose accordion manner, and crimp one side with a narrow wooden dowel or pencil.

Using a little water, you’ll add them to your bigger piece of rolled out fondant. Make certain that they overlap.

Next, place your cutter over it and push down. Let your number to fully dry. That will take at least a day to complete.

Make a bow using the bow mold and then paint it with the gold luster dust and lemon essence. With a dab of water, attach to your topper.

Turn the topper face down and attach a popsicle stick with a dab of water, then spread a rolled out piece of fondant over that to hold it in place. Let it to dry completely before placing it into the cake.

To complete this cake, I simply cut out some black fondant circles and let them firm up before attaching them to the cake with a little of buttercream.

The Rose Topper:

Supplies you’ll need for the rose topper:

  • Cookie cutters with numbers
  • Fondant blanc
  • Food coloring gel
  • Mold for a little fondant rose
  • Cake pop or popsicle sticks

Making the rose topper:

This topper is quite simple. To produce various hues of fondant, mix the gel coloring with it. You could go with all the same color, a multi-color look as I did, or a monochrome appearance. After you’ve blended your colors, seal them in a ziplock bag and leave them away.

Now, for your number, lay out some fondant. You may use white or one of the colors you already combined. Just spread it out thinly and cut out your number. Let the number to dry completely for at least a day.

Fill the rose mold with little bits of colored fondant. I went with the two smallest sizes. I manufactured roughly five of each color choice you like.

After you’ve completed all of the flowers, use a caking paint brush to add a little water to your number. Just start putting your flowers in a random pattern now. You may need to put some little ones in the empty spots. Let it to firm up.

After it’s solid, flip it face down and add a popsicle stick dipped in water, then top with a fondant strip to hold everything in place. Let it to dry completely before placing it into the cake.

To finish off this cake, I just cut out some circles in the same color as the flowers. I let them dry before attaching them on the cake with buttercream.

The Rose Gold Sequin Topper:

Supplies you’ll need for the rose gold sequin topper:

  • Cookie cutters with numbers
  • Fondant blanc
  • Rose gold luster dust is a combination of gold, bronze, and pink luster dust
  • Cake pop or popsicle sticks
  • Piping fluid

Making the rose gold sequin topper:

The first step is to make a roll of white fondant. You don’t want it to be too thick, but you also don’t want it to be too thin. It must be strong. Set your number aside and cut it out.

The edible sequins must be made next. Just lay out some really thin white fondant and cut out a number of little circles using a tiny circle cutter or the end of an icing tip. Put them aside to dry on foam or a cake board. You want them to be absolutely dry, so let your number and edible sequins dry for a day or two.

After dry, apply a coat of piping gel on your number. Add the sequins; you’ll need to shift them about a little to obtain a nice fit. Place it aside to dry. I let mine dry for many hours.

Then, combine your gold or bronze luster dust with a little amount of pink luster or petal dust. To produce a thick paint, add some lemon essence. Just keep applying gold or pink until the appropriate rose gold hue is achieved, then brush onto the number. Be careful not to knock any of the sequins off.

You’ll need to apply a few of applications and then let them dry completely.

After dry, flip face down and insert a popsicle stick dipped in water. After that, apply a strip of fondant to reinforce it and allow it dry completely before placing it into the cake.

To complete this cake, I simply cut out fondant circles using a tiny circle cutter and painted them the same rose gold hue. I let them dry completely before attaching them on the cake with buttercream.
